Nexus is a range of devices that Google has been launching since 2010. Currently only two devices are available in the market – Google Nexus 6P by Huawei and Nexus 5X by LG. Essentially, Google handles the design, development and marketing functions of those products but does not necessarily produce them.

The Nexus line has included tablets, media players and of course mobile phones. Of these only the above-mentioned products are still available.

The Nexus 5X developed by LG, runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. First announced on September 29, 2015, along with the Nexus 6P, it has a 5.2″ FHD LCD display with 1080×1920 pixel resolution (423ppi); Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 – Hexa-core 1.8 GHz processor; 16 or 32 GB storage; 2 GB RAM and a non-removable 2700 mAh battery with rapid charging. It has a 12.3 MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens and IR laser-assisted autofocus and a 5 MP front camera with f/2.0 lens. The phone is available in Black, White and Mint.

The Nexus 6P developed by Huawei also runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has a 5.7″ WQHD AMOLED display with 1440×2560 pixel resolution; Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 – Octa-core 4 × 1.95 GHz, 4 × 1.55 GHz processor; 32, 64, or 128 GB versions; 3 GB RAM; 3450 non-removable mAh battery with rapid charging. Cameras include a 12.3 MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens and IR laser-assisted autofocus and 8 MP front camera with f/2.0 lens

The phone is available in Black, Silver, White and Gold.

The products were competitively priced launched without much fanfare, and are sold online through exclusive store tie-ups and are the first ones to receive any update in the Android operating system.

The One Plus smart phone that is slowly becoming extremely popular across the world, is the closest competitor of the Google Nexus phones.

Nexus One – The first Google Nexus that was launched in 2010, was constructed by HTC and ran on Eclair.

Nexus S – In 2010, a new model that ran on Gingerbread was introduced by the codename Crespo and built by Samsung.

Galaxy Nexus – This device was equipped with Ice Cream Sandwich and rolled out in 2011.

Nexus 4 – The Google Nexus 4 that came powered with the Android Jelly Bean system is said to have actually helped the brand in carving a niche for itself in the smart phone market.

Nexus 7 (First generation) – This was a tablet that was developed by ASUS and ran on Android 4.1 Jellybean. It was eventually upgraded to Lollipop. It had a 7” display 1280×800 pixel resolution, Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC and 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU. It was available in 8, 16, or 32 GB versions and had 1 GB RAM.

Nexus 7 (Second Generation) – This was also developed by ASUS an dran on Jellybean as well. It was eventually upgraded to Marshmallow. It had a 7.02″ display with 1920×1200 pixel resolution; Qualcomm Snapdragon S4Pro SoC and 1.51 GHz quad-core Krait 300 CPU. It was available in 16 and 32 GB versions; had 2 GB of RAM.
